Even if it’s after regular business hours, we have a dedicated phone line for after-hours emergencies so you can get the prompt help you need. So, what can you expect from emergency dental appointments? Keep reading to learn more.

What Is a Dental Emergency?

If you have any of the following dental issues, contact our dental office right away for an emergency appointment:

  • Broken or chipped tooth
  • Dental infections
  • Severe toothache
  • Extreme tooth sensitivity
  • Emergency root canal therapy
  • Broken crown, bridge, denture, or veneers
  • Knocked-out tooth
  • Bleeding gums requiring periodontal treatment

What Happens at Emergency Dental Appointments?

When you contact us, we will ask some preliminary questions to determine the nature of your dental emergency. We’ll need to know what happened and what you’re experiencing to prepare for your appointment.

At your emergency appointment, here’s what you can expect to happen:

  1. Examination — We’ll conduct a dental examination to determine the issue; this includes a visual exam and x-rays. We will look for swelling, inflammation, infection, broken teeth or restorations, and exposed nerves.
  2. Pain relief — Once we have gathered sufficient information, we will do everything possible to eliminate your discomfort. We can administer in-office pain injections, but we may prescribe pain relievers and antibiotics once we determine what’s causing the pain.
  3. Treatment plan — We will treat your dental issue immediately if possible, but you may have to come back for an additional visit. For example, if you need root canal therapy or an extraction, you may need more than one appointment.
